It wasn’t Noah who was Naked

A popularly misread, misinterpreted passage where many have assumed that Ham must’ve been or done something “homosexual” to Noah. He lusted after his Father? Was something taboo about seeing another man naked?

The “nakedness of his father”, and “father’s nakedness is explained by God as:

‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, that is, the nakedness of your mother. She is your mother; you are not to uncover her nakedness. ‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness. Leviticus 18:7-8

Alas, things are not always what they seem.

A cursory reading of Leviticus 18 shows that it’s only women who’s nakedness is addressed. The nakedness of men is not addressed in the law. Can you figure out why? The two righteous brothers, Shem and Japheth, hid their faces from their mother’s shame. Men like them did not exploit the Church, but honored her, and thus, honored their father and mother.

Deeper still, this speaks of Christ covering the shame of his wife, the Church.

“I spread My wings over you and covered your nakedness.” Ezekiel 16:8
