After reading this book years ago, it quickly became my number one favorite book. This testimony and story of Hudson Taylor giving his entire life to the evangelization of the interior lands of China has shaped me more than any other book I’ve read.
I felt his character, way of thinking, and biblical viewpoints were exactly like my own. This particular book has a lot of personal journal entries from Hudson Taylor and they were where I felt the most connection with him and his life. There is nothing like reading another man’s journal and getting a glimpse of his innermost trials, sufferings, musings, thoughts on life, questions, doubts, and emotions. It’s a strong lesson for us all to learn how to find transparency with one another to know that we are not alone in our difficulties.
Hudson Taylor’s achievements on the mission field are underscored by a inner life that is not unlike yours or mine.
