Growing up as an American kid in an evangelical world I was taught that God had a wonderful plan for my life. I’ve still to make sense of that.
I was not taught that God has a wonderful plan for our life. This makes immediate sense to me when considered in light of the oneness of the body and how each of us are called away from self and toward the oneness of the body.
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Therefore I think there is more peace of mind when an individual considers his or her “calling” in terms of the one true calling. Ask not what God has called you to do, but ask what God has called us to do.
