I.       The male and female are distinct creatures after one kind.[1] Their kind is called by God Adam, after the name which he gave to its head. Its head, Adam, was made in the shape and form of God the Father[2] with Eve being taken out of the bosom of the male and made only after God’s kind, and was called by Adam, woman, for he saw she was of his own kind.[3] Upon learning of her identity as the mother of all the living, the woman was named by Adam, Eve.[4] Adam is the father of humanity according to the flesh. Eve is the mother.

II.       The design inherent in the male and female, Adam and Eve, was such that they, in holy perfection, manifested distinct glories[5] which served to foreshadow and proclaim the mysteries of Christ and the Church, the Bridegroom and the Bride, the second Adam and Eve, the heavenly father and mother, and the sons of Abraham and daughters of Sarah.

III.       As men and women, each taking after Adam and Eve according to the flesh, have both fallen short of the glories they once held, they are yet called by God in Christ to repent and be baptized into a renewing state of glory,[6] equal in standing,[7] yet not independent nor indistinct,[8] as sons and daughters and brothers and sisters in the Lord. Men and women therefore are called to witness and uphold this great mystery conjugally, sexually, and relationally, so as not to hold the truths of sacrificial love, duty, leadership, reciprocity, reverent fear, submission, faithfulness, and oneness, the glories of the very Gospel itself, in contempt.

[1] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 1 COR 15:38 But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. 39 For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.[2] GEN 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make Adam in our image, after our likeness. 27 So God created Adam in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 1 COR 11:7 For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man.

[3] GEN 2:23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 1 COR 11:88 For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9 Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

[4] GEN 3:20 The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

[5] PRO 11:16 A gracious woman gets honor 20:29 The glory of young men is their strength, but the splendor of old men is their gray hair.

[6] 2 COR 3:7 Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? 9 For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory. 10 Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it. 11 For if what was being brought to an end came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

[7] GAL 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. 29 Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit.

[8] 1 COR 11:11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman;
