I. God imbued Adam with an identity after His own. Adam was God’s son. As God’s son he was responsible, free, and exceedingly good. In his freedom, Adam betrayed and fell short of the glory of God’s identity and compromised it, and opened up the world to death. Death then reigned in Adam and his posterity, enslaving them to the corruption of flesh, and the death of the spirit.
II. A man’s identity, his name, is determined by his own actions. Adam, though very good, made an evil choice and thus became evil. An evil man may perform good deeds, worship God, or act lawfully, yet he is no longer able to please God or restore himself to God’s standard of perfection. Beneath his freewill lie certain evil desires which now enslave him. Man, taken captive by sin and evil, chooses sin and evil.
III. A man or woman of evil identity, such as the law reveals—an adulterer, the sexually immoral, a thief, a liar, an idolater, a murderer, a coward, etc., does in its own right bring shame and guilt upon the individual, whereby he or she is bound over to the wrath of the Father God, broken relationship with Him, and the curse of the law, and so made subject to death, with all miseries spiritual, temporal, and eternal.
IV. The responsibility and choice to respond to God’s love, and so live, is ours. Salvation results in a person’s completely free response of repentance and faith. Whoever believes will be saved.
V. Our first parents fell from their masculine and feminine glory—Eve through deception by the subtilty and craftiness of Satan and Adam through the deference to his wife’s voice. Each of them received distinct punishments of pain—Adam, upon his work, and Eve upon her childbearing. Both incurred suffering to their relational desires in that hers would be against him and he would be domineering over her.
VI. This corruption is inherent in the flesh and therefore remains in those that are born again throughout their lives; and although it be pardoned through Christ, it is still prone to temptation and sin and so must be denied and mortified daily, that the wife may not go against her husband but follow him faithfully and that the husband may not domineer but lead lovingly.
LUK 3:38 the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
GEN 2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
GEN 2:16 NASB The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely”

ROM 7:18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. ROM 5:6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. ROM 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
JAM 1:14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. DEU 30:19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live
GEN 32:28 Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.” GEN 16:13 So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.” MAT 1:21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” GEN 38:29 But as he drew back his hand, behold, his brother came out. And she said, “What a breach you have made for yourself!” Therefore his name was called Perez. ISA 63:14 So you led your people, to make for yourself a glorious name. NEH 9:10 and performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants and all the people of his land, for you knew that they acted arrogantly against our fathers. And you made a name for yourself, as it is to this day. ECC 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment, and the day of death than the day of birth. PRO 22:1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold. PRO 10:7 The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
MAT 7:11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! ISA 64:6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
ACT 16:14 One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul. 15 And after she was baptized, and her household as well
 GEN 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” JOH 5:39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life JER 48:7 For, because you trusted in your works and your treasures, you also shall be taken;

GAL 5:17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. ROM 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. MAT 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. LUK 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. JOH 8:34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.
REV 21:8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death. 1 COR 6:9 YLT have ye not known that the unrighteous the reign of God shall not inherit? be not led astray; neither whoremongers, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor sodomites, greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
ROM 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another. ROM 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin. 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

GEN 3:24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.
GAL 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

GEN 3:12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” GEN 3:17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 2CO 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

GEN 3:16 Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”
1JO 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. ROM 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me(that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. JAM 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
ROM 7:5 NASB For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death. 7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead. 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. EPH 5:24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word
