Modern Evangelism: From Crusade to Ambuscade

This sums up our evangelism:
“Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceitfully; with his mouth each speaks peace to his neighbor, but in his heart he plans an ambush for him.” Jeremiah 9:8

Come now, you know exactly why you’re doing what you are with those people on the street, in the mall, in the squares, in the countryside.. you lie in wait. You look for the cues. You descend with a swoop. You act cool. Show them your tattoos or how culturally relevant you are. In your heart you have a devised plan that you hide from them. You don’t reveal your true agenda and motives. You’re a deceiver!

This is not saving them from anything, nor teaching them anything, nor discipling them in anything. “Repentance” was always proclaimed among those who had the knowledge already. Jesus stands at the door [opening] and knocks [with his fist]. He tells the church to repent, or they will perish (Rev. 3:19-20).

Enigma time:

I stand at the door and knock, he who opens… = Jesus (Rev. 3:20)

to him who knocks, the door will be opened = also Jesus. (Matt. 7:8)

When the Church is seen creeping up on her neighbors and then without warning descending on them with the Anglo-saxon-turned-catholic-turned-protestant conceptualization of hell she is showing herself to be rejecting knowledge and in need of repentance herself.

The Laodicean Play

Curious, informed, individual: “How did hell, a 7th century Anglo-saxon word, come to define six different theological places—Gehenna, Hades, Death, Tartarus, the Abyss, and the Lake of Fire—all at once?”

Hyper-zealous uninformed evangelist:

“………….

…………………………………….doesn’t matter right now! repent! you’re going to be lost to Satan forever!!!”
