the LORD has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD 1 Samuel 13:14
Joseph Benson in 1854 interpreted this in the way most commentators do, “that is, such a man as will fulfil all the desires of his heart, and not oppose, them as thou dost.”
It was thought that “after God’s heart” meant some man inclined toward God’s heart which isn’t necessarily incorrect but the Hebrew says more literally “man of God’s heart”.
The word “after” is not in the original text.
Hebrew works like this—
ish milchamah = man of war
ish elohim = man of God
ish kilvavoh = man of his heart
the LORD hath sought him a man of his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people. 1 Samuel 13:14 KJV
This is Jesus Christ. The first man of his own heart. But not the last. He has a people, a tribe. Brothers. Within the Household of God there will be many sons of God’s own heart. They will be enthroned, given authority, and provide shelter to the multitudes. Are you one of them?
